Garrett – Bewitched Review

Summarize the plot:

  • Bewiched is a light hearted romantic comedy fantasy show that is about a human man and a witch that are married and how they interact with each other, their families and neighbors. In this episode, the mother in law of Samantha (the wife) is meddling by wanting to have a witches party on Halloween in Samantha’s and Darren’s home. Darren who is human does not want anything to do with this party but does get into it a bit towards the end. This show is presented in 1960’s.

Critique the script:

  • In this show the magical characters are not made to be realistic, except for Samantha. Samantha tries not to use her powers to make her husband more comfortable. The other witches like Uncle Arthur being in a painting and talking while being a portrait or when Endora the mother in law created a house and then made it disappear caused Darren to become upset. Darren is worried what the neighbors would think if they found out that his wife is a witch. The banter between Uncle Arthur and Endora increased the humor of the story. The way they keep picking on each other was funny and enjoyable.

Evaluate the acting:

Samantha, the witch is the main protagonist as she tries to juggle the life of an ordinary housewife and also handling a meddling magical family. When she tried to convince her mother to get rid of the party house, Endora decided to have the party in Samantha’s and Darren’s home instead. In doing this, Endora changed the inside of their home, so then Samantha had to prepare Darren for the change and to also encourage him to accept that the party would be held in their home. The dialogue was humorous and the rapport between the characters was great.

  • Overall, I enjoyed the episode for the most part besides the fact that it’s not my exact go to, to watch genre. It had above expectation for the editing/ animations and production for the time it was released in. It wasn’t over the top crazy, but it wasn’t lacking content either. If it was a show genre that I was more interested in, I may even watch more episodes. I would give this show or episode a 4 out of 5 rating.
